Reason Speakeasy: with David A. Stockman

  • This event has passed.

January 22 @ 6:30 pm 9:00 pm

The Reason Speakeasy is a monthly, unscripted conversation with outspoken defenders of free thinking and heterodoxy. It doubles as a live taping of The Reason Interview with Nick Gillespie podcast.

The guest on Monday, January 22 is David A. Stockman, the former two-term Michigan congressman who famously served as Ronald Reagan’s first budget director and, in 1986, authored the blistering Washington memoir The Triumph of Politics: Why the Reagan Revolution Failed, in which he detailed all the ways politicians and bureaucrats resist cutting the size, scope, and spending of government. A former member of Students for a Democratic Society while a student at Michigan State in the 1960s, Stockman has been one of the most vocal critics of what he calls the “welfare-warfare state” for the past half-century.

Reason’s Nick Gillespie will interview Stockman about his controversial new book Trump’s War on Capitalism, which argues that the former president’s attacks on immigration and free trade, along with his inconsistent  response to the Covid 19 pandemic did lasting damage to American prosperity and to the Republican Party.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the program starts at 7:00 p.m. $10 ticket includes beer, wine, soft drinks, and a buffet of light food.
