A debate and panel discussion on stem cell research, cloning and the moral and ethical controversies surrounding biotechnology on Thursday, August 25th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Washington Marriot in DC. The panelists will also participate in a Q&A session with the audience. Wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres will be served following the event.
Who:
RONALD BAILEY, author of the new book Liberation Biology: The Scientific and Moral Case for the Biotech Revolution (Prometheus Books, 2005) and science correspondent at Reason magazine. Bailey’s work is featured in The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2004 and he is editor of several books, including Global Warming and Other Eco-Myths: How the Environmental Movement Uses False Science to Scare Us to Death (2002).

ERIC COHEN, a consultant to the President’s Council on Bioethics and the director of the Biotechnology and American Democracy Program at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. Cohen is editor of The New Atlantis, the Center’s journal about the ethical, political, and social implications of technological advancement.

JOEL GARREAU, a reporter and editor at The Washington Post and author of several books, including Radical Evolution: The Promise and Peril of Enhancing Our Minds, Our Bodies – and What It Means to Be Human (Doubleday, 2005). He is principal of The Garreau Group, a consulting agency that analyzes social, geographic and psycho-demographic trends whose clients have included Volvo, Prudential, Coca Cola, McDonald’s, the University of Michigan, and many others.
