Reason is honored to announce that PLANetizen.com, a prominent national urban planning and development website, has selected Urbanfutures.org as one of the 50 best planning and development websites of 2003. Urbanfutures.org is a project of the Reason Public Policy Institute devoted to providing market-oriented analysis of land use and economic development issues.
“We are honored to have been selected for PLANetizen’s top 50 list for the second straight year. PLANetizen provides an invaluable forum for Reason and for others with nontraditional views on urban growth and development to both present and defend their ideas,” said Leonard Gilroy, manager of Urbanfutures.org.
PLANetizen evaluated approximately 200 websites in developing their list, which recognizes the innovative use of the Internet in urban planning and development. “The Planetizen Top 50 list recognizes a wide range of outstanding websites, from essential resources by large organizations, to ingenious efforts by individuals,” said Abhijeet Chavan, Managing Editor of PLANetizen. PLANetizen Editor Chris Steins added, “The Top 50 List highlights the kind of innovative thinking that planning and development professionals can use to advance the profession.”
Urbanfutures.org was the only market-oriented policy website selected for PLANetizen’s list. Urbanfutures.org is the premier web resource for information on market-oriented urban planning, growth management, and economic development. The site features original policy analysis, commentary, summaries of peer-reviewed academic research, and web portals for information on key planning-related topics.
Another exclusive feature of Urbanfutures.org is its State Planning and Growth Management Database, which provides a state-by-state focus on smart growth, growth management, and market-oriented approaches to urban planning. Content includes over 7,200 links to state/local government agencies, local free-market think tanks, policy studies, and other useful local planning information.
PLANetizen.com is the leading information exchange for the urban planning and development community, providing a one-stop source for planning-related news, announcements, jobs, commentary and events. The top 50 list is available on PLANetizen, visited daily by more than 10,000 professionals interested in planning and development issues. The list will also be widely distributed to academic programs throughout the country.
