Today Reason joined other groups in filing an amicus brief “urging the Florida Supreme Court to uphold the state’s Opportunity Scholarships program” which our education policy research has found to be a good program. At issues is the Florida Opportunity Scholarship program which, in a nutshell, lets kids in failing schools use a voucher to go to a better school. Natch, the Insitute for Justice is leading the fight. The public education system and fellow travelers have argued that the opportunity scholarships amount to state support of religion because it is possible for families to use the vouchers at religious schools. They have succeeded so far with this argument in the courts. For the sake of those poor kids stuck in schools so bad that they fail even by VERY low standards, lets hope the FL Supreme Court is more sensible.
