Her previous research experience includes field research in Cuba on remittances and the emerging tech sector, informal parking markets and land use regulation in developing countries, and local approaches to fighting crime in Latin America.
Katarina earned her master's degree in political economy from New York University and her bachelor's degree from Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where she was born and raised. During her time at NYU, she was a Mercatus Center Frédéric Bastiat fellow, where she contributed to a book chapter on nudge policies.
She previously worked as a reporter for a Miami-based newspaper, an associate professor at UFM, and a research fellow for the Center for Growth and Opportunity.
