About the Role
Reason, the nation’s leading libertarian magazine and website, is seeking a full-time Junior Designer Fellow to join our dynamic magazine and video team. This year-long experience will give you a chance to explore and promote the principles of individual liberty, free markets, and the rule of law while building your resume and learning from seasoned professionals who share your passion for free minds and free markets. Previous Fellows have gone on to work at Reason long-term or other positions within our network.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work across both print and motion graphics, contributing to our publication’s visual storytelling. You will create compelling designs for our website and magazine while supporting our video department with motion graphics. This includes working closely with senior designers and the video team to deliver high-quality visual content across multiple platforms.
We’re looking for someone highly motivated and self driven who has a solid understanding of visual and digital design principles. Hands-on experience in graphic design and motion graphics is ideal. Familiarity with Reason’s editorial work is a plus. This is a remote position that’s part of Reason’s Fellowship Program and will report to Managing Editor Jason Russell.
Responsibilities
- Create engaging layouts and designs for magazine content
- Produce motion graphics for video content
- Design thumbnails and graphics for our website and social media platforms
- Maintain brand consistency across all platforms
- Support the art director and art editor when required
- Collaborate with the digital magazine team
Qualifications
- Experience in design, graphic design, or a related field
- Experience with motion graphics and animation
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects
- Understanding of typography, layout, and visual design principles
- Understanding of digital design principles
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with members of the team
- Familiarity with Reason’s editorial work is a plus
- An understanding of Reason’s mission and an appreciation for the libertarian worldview are a plus
