Fox’s John Stossel Awarded The Lanny Friedlander Prize at the Reason Media Awards

The Lanny Friedlander Prize was awarded to Fox Business Network’s John Stossel for his decades of work at Fox and ABC highlighting the benefits of individual freedom.

Louis Rossetto, founder and former publisher of Wired magazine, and The Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald are previous recipients of The Lanny Friedlander Prize, which is awarded to journalists who vastly expand human freedom by increasing our ability to express ourselves, engage in debate, and generate new ways of understanding the power of free minds and free markets. Lanny Friedlander (1947-2011) founded Reason magazine in 1968.

BBC News’ Chloe Hadjimatheou and Richard Knight won the $10,000 Reason Video Prize, which honors short-form video journalism that investigates or enriches our appreciation of individual rights. Hadjimatheou and Knight earned first place for their work on “‘Islamic State’s’ most wanted: ISIS take over.”

Institute for Justice’s Isaac Reese was the Reason Video Prize runner-up and received $5,000. Dugan Bridges and Daniel Abts collected third place.

Tim Harford, a columnist at The Financial Times and author of the book Messy: How to Be Creative and Resilient in a Tidy-Minded World, collected $10,000 and the 15th Bastiat Prize for Journalism, which is presented to writers who best explain the importance of freedom with originality, wit, and eloquence.

Bastiat Prize judge Razeen Sally said Harford’s “analysis is sophisticated, but presented so crystal-clearly. It would make Bastiat proud.”

The Boston Globe Columnist Jeff Jacoby, and Jamie Whyte, a freelance writer in New Zealand, tied for second place and took home $3,000 each.

The awards were handed out at the 2016 Reason Media Awards hosted by Drew Carey, stand-up comedian and host of The Price Is Right on CBS.
