Reason Speakeasy: Susannah Cahalan on ‘The Acid Queen’

June 3 @ 6:30 pm 9:30 pm

Join Reason’s Nick Gillespie at the Reason Speakeasy on Tuesday, June 3, when he’ll talk with New York Times bestselling author Susannah Cahalan.

The Reason Speakeasy is a monthly unscripted conversation with outspoken defenders of freethinking and heterodoxy in an age of intellectual conformity and groupthink. The event doubles as a live taping of The Reason Interview With Nick Gillespie.

Nick and Susannah will discuss her latest book, The Acid Queen: The Psychedelic Life and Counterculture Rebellion of Rosemary Woodruff Leary, which brings to light the extraordinary and long-overlooked story of Rosemary Woodruff Leary—a woman who was far more than just Timothy Leary’s wife. Rosemary was a beatnik, psychonaut, countercultural trailblazer, and an important part of the psychedelic revolution of the 1960s and ’70s. She worked alongside her husband on his books and speeches and ultimately risked everything for the safety of fellow psychedelic pioneers.

The Reason Speakeasy will be co-hosted with the Psychedelic Assembly at the Blue Building at 222 E 46th St. in Midtown Manhattan. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and Nick’s discussion with Susannah will begin at 7:00 p.m. It will be followed by an audience Q&A and a reception. Tickets can be purchased through the Psychedelic Assembly here, using the code REASON for $10 off each ticket.
