October 22 @ 9:00 pm – October 23 @ 12:00 am
You are invited to join local Reason Foundation supporters for a discussion of Beyond Control: Drug Prohibition, Gun Regulation, and the Search for Sensible Alternatives, the latest book by Reason Senior Editor Jacob Sullum.
Beyond Control takes an in-depth look at America’s long-running wars on guns and drugs, tracing their troubled histories, exposing their disproportionate harms, and questioning whether these policies achieve their intended aims. Drawing on decades of research and analysis, Jacob makes the case for how prohibition and regulation erode civil liberties, punish peaceful individuals, and expand government power. There are alternatives to proscriptive policies, and Jacob offers his thoughts on alternatives that will reduce harm without undermining freedom.
“Conservatives and progressives share an itch to regulate the behavior of others. So, libertarians like Jacob Sullum must be contrarians, discomfiting both sides. Both will be improved by his explanation of the pedigrees of their ideas.” —Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist George F. Will
We’ll enjoy brief remarks from the author himself, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and good company. We hope you’ll join us for an evening of serious conversation on the future of liberty, justice, and public policy.
