In Connecticut, Gov. Jodi Rell has asked state agencies and commissions to develop a list of assets that could potentially be sold to help close a $4 billion gap in the state’s fiscal year 2010 budget:
Connecticut’s governor has told agency heads to come up with a list of items that could be sold in the equivalent of a state government garage sale.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell has told state commissioners and agency chiefs to identify assets ranging from land and buildings to cars and equipment that could be sold to offset the budget deficits.
Rell says there are ongoing budget talks, but one proposal that legislative Democrats support is raising about $112 million through the sale of state assets.
Rell says the state must consider selling off state property that we would never consider selling under ordinary circumstances.
Agency heads are to provide their recommendations to the governor by July 27.
