Reason Magazine Art Director
Reason – the monthly print magazine of “free minds and free markets” – is seeking an art director to do layout and image selection for the monthly print magazine, and to contribute to the visual elements of the magazine’s online presence and video project.
Applicants must have experience working under deadline pressure at a periodical publication and interacting with printers. They should be credentialed in a relevant field and/or be able to demonstrate an understanding of design principles, typography, page composition and grid structures, photo manipulation, and the print production process.
The job involves big picture aesthetic decision making, but also finicky attention to detail. Excellent time management skills are required. InDesign and Photoshop fluency is a must, and familiarity with motion graphics software, such as After Effects, Motion, Cinema4D a plus. While there is no ideological litmus test, the ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in libertarianism.
Job location is negotiable, but candidates who can work from our Washington, D.C. office are preferred. Candidates at all levels of experience are invited to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
