With all the recent talk about government bailouts, windfall profits taxes and airline reregulation, our country looks set to take a collective leap back to the 1970s. But we expected that already. Today, we got another sign that Tom Wolfe’s “Me Decade” is roaring back. A recent Rasmussen poll found that almost half the American public thinks we need a new “Fairness Doctrine.” Really. More amazing, over 70% believe that it is currently possible for any political view to get a platform and find an audience. Something that happened…cause, you know…we got rid of the Fairness Doctrine. Some not insignificant percentage of my fellow citizens believe both propositions. Ugh. See here for more on fairness doctrine from Reason Foundation. Go here for reason magazine’s coverage.
