Statewide planning doesn’t work

Using a gloss of “fighting global warming” CA State Senator Darrell Steinberg has proposed SB 375 , a law that would deny state funds to local planning organization that do not require development to match Steinberg’s vision, and his vision is no more rural or suburban lifestyles allowed. The Orange County Register lambasted Steinberg’s ideas, and rightly points out that when “environmental activists call it the most important land-use legislation since the California Coastal Act three decades ago” we should be alarmed. Reason has done research on similar statewide planning laws showing their biggest accomplishment is to raise housing prices. Just what we need in CA. Check out the research here and here.
