NJ may privatize Turnpike

Story here. NJ’s transportation funding, like that of so many other states, is in the toilet. Governor Richard Codey says he wants to avoid any increase in the state gasoline (and diesel) taxes, but the state’s transportation trust fund is so heavily burdened by debt service on non-revenue generating projects (light rail etc) that it will run out of money for new projects next June. All the fuel tax and other revenues will go to debt service.
