Hey! This is Saving a Lot of Money. Quick, Kill It.

I was saddened but not surprised when Congress moved quickly after the election to kill competitive sourcing–in which commercial services performed by federal agencies were subject to competition with the private sector. The federal employees usually won the competitions, but only by reducing costs, cutting staff and improving efficiency. Obviously some of the “change” we need is getting rid of cost cutting programs that inconvenience federal workers.

The latest outrage though is federal agencies considering canceling the agreements under which those winning groups of federal workers operate. In other words, tearing up the contract they have to operate more efficiently. Yeah, lets go back to doing this at higher costs! Yipee!
