No seriously. It is. Using a young readers’ novel called “The Misfits” as its centerpiece, middle schools nationwide will participate in a “No Name-Calling Week” initiative starting Monday. The program, now in its second year, has the backing of groups from the Girl Scouts to Amnesty International. . . I just shake my head. How pitiful is it that public schools can’t just enforce decent behavior and manners, and has to resort to this kind of crap. How much more sad that there are people out there who are deeply upset about teaching kids not be mean to gays.
