South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford issued his executive budget today. There are several noteworthy pieces, including a $150 million tax rebate and the creation of a Sunset Commission. Perhaps the most impressive piece was this statement: “We think it’s important in terms of strengthening our economy to make sure that government’s growth doesn’t outstrip the rate of growth of people’s paychecks and their wallets and their pocketbooks,” Sanford said. “The government shouldn’t grow faster than people’s ability to pay for government.” Now if only the legislature will cooperate.
