Federal Transportation Department Shuts Down

If you’ve missed the news, the Federal Department of Transportation has essentially shut because an extension of their funding is bottled up by Sen. Bunning’s fillibuster. Given how dependent states have become on the flow of federal transportation dollars, this is causing much consternation.

I’d say it is yet another in a long run of signs that the federal transportation program needs to focus on federal transportation needs, and states need to radically reduce their dependence on federal funds for their state transportation programs.
