The following nugget from the June 10 Richmond Times-Dispatch about a draft press release that Greenpeace accidentally put out speaks for itself: Armageddonist Once in a while the slick surface of public relations and spin-doctoring pulls back to reveal the messy — and often entertaining — truth. That happened recently when President Bush visited Pennsylvania to talk about nuclear energy. Greenpeace was ready. Or almost ready. It prepared a “fact sheet” denouncing the Exelon Limerick Generating Station outside Pottstown where Bush made his remarks. “In the 20 years since the Chernobyl tragedy, the world’s worst nuclear accident,” it read, “there have been nearly [FILL IN ALARMIST AND ARMAGEDDONIST FACTOID HERE].” A spokesman for the environmental group said it had not meant to release that early draft of the broadsheet. (It probably wouldn’t have, if it took as much care to prevent accidents as the nuclear industry does.)
