Safest Skies Ever

With terrorism worries making air travelers squeamish, it’s nice to hear some good news. Last year was the safest ever for the nation’s major airlines: there were no deaths in 2002. This is a major engineering feat, and further proof that technology continues to make our lives safer. We’ve got a good thing going, and we shouldn’t ruin it. The more people travel through the air, the safer travel becomes. But the more regulators make flying more time-consuming, annoying, or expensive, the more people will choose less safe modes of transportation. All the more reason to heed this Reason policy report’s recommendations for a more rational approach to airport security.
