Republicans Begin to Tackle Federal Spending

The Republicans in the House of Representatives seem to have recognized that fiscal restraint will be a key to their success in the next presidential election.

The House Republican Study Committee, Chaired by Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan (who I happened to work with when he was in the Ohio Senate and I was at The Buckeye Institute), has released an outline of nearly $2.5 trillion in spending cuts over a ten year period. That’s still less than 10 percent of the federal spending each year on average, but some of the changes are meaingful if they take hold.

My first take on the spending cuts and restraints can be found at the National Review‘s blog “The Corner.” A lot more needs to be done, but this is a crdible first step if it gains momentum.
