The GAO just came out with a report on the use of contractors in war zones. They focus on how the military still needs to improve its planning for deploying and using contractors out there on the ground where the war is happening.
But the most interesting thing I saw in the report was how in many cases individuals who were contractors were ready to fly to the war zone even though their contract did not require them to deploy. People criticize the use of contractors by the military, saying "what if they won't go," but our experience to date backs up common sense that says the contractors are about as devoted to their job and as patriotic as the military personnel are. They go, even when they don't have to.
