Jerry Ellig has been a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University since 1996. Between August 2001 and August 2003, he served as deputy director and acting director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission while on a leave of absence from the Mercatus Center. Dr. Ellig has also served as a senior economist for the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress and as an assistant professor of economics at George Mason University.
Dr. Ellig has published numerous articles on government regulation and business management in both scholarly and popular periodicals, including the Journal of Regulatory Economics, Managerial and Decision Economics, Business & Politics, Antitrust Bulletin, Contemporary Policy Issues, Competitive Intelligence Review, Journal of Private Enterprise, Texas Review of Law & Politics, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Barron’s, and the Washington Post. His coauthored/edited books include Dynamic Competition and Public Policy (Cambridge, 2001), Economic Deregulation and Customer Choice (Center for Market Processes, 1997, with Robert W. Crandall), New Horizons in Natural Gas Deregulation (Praeger, 1996, with Joseph Kalt) and Municipal Entrepreneurship and Energy Policy (Gordon & Breach, 1994, with Alison E. Woodward and Tom R. Burns).
Dr. Ellig received his Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and his B.A. in economics from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
