Reason Speakeasy: Nick Gillespie & Brian Doherty Talk ‘Dirty Pictures’

  • June 20, 2022
    6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Please join Reason Editor at Large Nick Gillespie for a live taping of The Reason Interview podcast on Monday, June 20, at New York’s Caveat bar and theater. Doors open at 6pm, interview starts at 7pm sharp, program ends at 8.30pm.

This event features Reason Senior Editor Brian Doherty talking with Nick about his new history of underground comic books (think Robert Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Trina Robbins, and the like). It’s called Dirty Pictures: How an Underground Network of Nerds, Feminists, Misfits, Geniuses, Bikers, Potheads, Printers, Intellectuals, and Art School Rebels Revolutionized Art and Invented Comix, and it’s as fascinating as its title is long!

The artists Brian writes about weren’t just creative geniuses who shook up popular culture and the high art world, they also fought for radical, creative expression in an age of censorship. We’ll talk about all that, plus Brian’s previous books such as This Is Burning Man: The Rise of a New American Underground and Radicals for Capitalism: A Freewheeling History of the Modern American Libertarian Movement.

*Please be advised that all attendees must present proof of full vaccination to enter Caveat.
