“I have been studying drugs for 22 years, 14 years at Columbia, and we have quite a bit of scientific, evidence-based information. And I am here to tell you, drugs are not the bogeyman that people said they were.”
So says Carl Hart—professor, neuroscientist, and author of the new book High Price: A Neuroscientist’s Journey of Self-Discovery That Challenges Everything You Know About Drugs and Society. High Price examines the relationship between drugs, pleasure, choice, and motivation, both in the brain and in society. Hart’s findings shed new light on common ideas about race, poverty, and drugs, and explain why current policies are failing.
On Friday, June 21 at the Reason.tv Studios Los Angeles, Dr. Hart will deliver a lecture arguing that the stories we have all grown up hearing about the dangers of drugs and their responsibility for ruining the lives of many users are just plain wrong.
