Debate: The Soho Forum Live — Time to Dismantle the Electoral College?

  • November 11, 2020
    6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The Electoral College is the best means of electing a president compared to any other that might be devised.

Time to Dismantle the Electoral College?

With this coming Tuesday’s presidential election hinging on just a few swing states and undecided voters, calls have already begun to end the Electoral College and transition to a “one person, one vote” system.

Observes Trevor Hughes in USA Today, “Millions of Americans are asking why their votes are essentially being taken for granted.”

By contrast, NYU Law Professor Richard Epstein strongly disagrees with the call to dismantle the Electoral College.

On Wednesday, November 11, Richard Epstein will take the Soho Forum’s virtual stage to defend the resolution, The Electoral College is the best means of electing a president compared to any others that might be devised.

Opposing the resolution: Lawrence Lessig, Professor of Law at Harvard.

Given the excitement and anticipation surrounding the upcoming election, and the risk of a contested result, we’ve decided to offer this debate free of charge to anyone interested.
