Many parents are forming these privately-funded mini-schools, which pay for a teacher to instruct their children. Others warn that this market for private tutoring is threatening public schools and increasing inequality.

Jon Hale, associate professor of education at the University of Illinois, expressed concern in a recent interview that “pandemic parents” will deal “a devastating blow to the public system.”

On Wednesday, September 16, Professor Hale will take the virtual stage at the Soho Forum to defend the resolution: To combat inequality, greater investments must be made in public schools so as not to accommodate the formation of “pandemic pods” by affluent parents.

Corey DeAngelis, director of school choice at Reason Foundation, will take the negative.
