President Obama Is Just Another Drug Warrior
In his Reason magazine cover story, Jacob Sullum examines President Obama’s transformation into a full-fledged drug warrior and his increasing embrace of the failed drug policies of the presidents before him. Before winning the White House, Obama called the drug war “an utter failure;” said he advocated a “public health” approach to drugs emphasizing treatment and training instead of prison; and said he would “stop the DEA’s raids on Oregon medical marijuana growers” because "our federal agents have better things to do.” But the war on drugs hasn't stopped under President Obama. In fact, in California, where medical marijuana is legal, U.S. attorneys are holding a press conference today to step up the war on drugs and "outline actions targeting the sale, distribution and cultivation of marijuana."

Trusting the President to Kill
Radical American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, part of Al Qaeda's affiliate in Yemen, was killed last Friday by a U.S. drone strike. Reason magazine's Jacob Sullum writes, "President Obama's policy regarding people linked to terrorism is clear: They are to be treated like criminal defendants with constitutional rights, except when they are treated like enemy soldiers in the heat of battle, subject to summary execution from a distance. Although this flexibility has obvious advantages in waging the never-ending war on terrorism, it threatens to transform the elected executive of a republic into a dictator with the power of life and death over his subjects."

Rebuilding and Modernizing Wisconsin Interstates With Toll Financing
In a new study, Reason Foundation's Robert Poole outlines Wisconsin's highway needs and the existing funding gap. Poole details how toll financing can be used to reduce congestion and ensure that taxpayers don't have to pay to rebuild roads until they are built and ready to use.
