Privatizing golf

With thanks to PolicyGuy for the tip: Arguing that Waukesha (Wisc.) County government must focus on core functions–and that running a golf course is not one of those functions–County Executive Dan Finley is pursuing the sale of the Wanaki Golf Course. ” The county, in suburban Milwaukee, owns three courses. Finley nails the point when he asks: Should Waukesha County have a golf facility when there’s plenty of other facilities? Why should county government do it?” Other members of the county government object, arguing that the course is self-supporting, and that the county ought to sell off two ice arenas, which are not. That’s a good idea, too.
