Deficit Commission Doesn’t Go Far Enough

The Deficit Commission’s co-chairs have released a preliminary report, really a powerpoint, and its clear the recommendations will be inside the box. Of course, we should probably be grateful given both Republican and Democratic predispositions for raising spending and taxes. Still, while the commission co-chairs don’t gloss over the debacle of federal spending, their recommendations don’t go nearly far enough. Their long-term goal is to get federal spending down to just 21 percent of GDP. That’s way to low.

National Review’s blog The Corner has a bunch of detailed comment on the commission report and its worth scrolling through. A few links to very good specific blog posts from The Corner can be found here, here, here, and here.
