How Opponents are Fighting the CA High Speed Rail Project

As engineers draw up plans for California’s high-speed rail system, opponents are drafting their own strategies — from lawsuits to ballot measures — to change, delay or perhaps even kill it.

This article focuses on local initiatives, lobbying, and lawsuits. There is plenty of each going on. But I’d point out the other big factor–funding. The CA HSR authority is counting on local governments to cough up at least $4 billion to fund the project. a) most of them are broke. b) at least half a dozen of them now oppose the project, so they sure are not going to pony up big bucks to help fund it.
