White House Directs BP’s Response to Oil Spill

From the New York Times (May 30, 2010):

“This [the gulf oil leak] is obviously a difficult situation,” Ms. Browner [White House environmental policy czar] said on NBC‘s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, “but it’s important for people to understand that from the beginning, the government has been in charge.”

“We have been directing BP to take important steps,” including the drilling of a second relief well, she added.

The White House said that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar would make his eighth trip to the region and that the number of government and contract employees sent to work in areas affected by the spill would be tripled.
