How to Start Fixing America’s Healthcare Crisis

In a new video, Reason.tv Editor Nick Gillespie unveils his plan to get health insurance for many of the 45 million Americans who don’t have it. Call it the Gillespie plan: If you want health insurance, go out and get some. A recent Johns Hopkins University study reports 20 percent of uninsured Americans can afford health insurance but choose not to buy it. The video introduces you to some of these folks; people who decide partying and buying clothes or protein powder are more important than health insurance. “Many families are suffering, but there are a lot people, especially young people, voluntarily choosing to spend their money on things other than healthcare,” says Gillespie, “Twenty percent of Americans can afford healthcare if they want it.
