Virginians face a traffic congestion problem that’s bad and getting worse, but they don’t want their taxes jacked up to pay for transportation improvements. Like folks in Denver, DC, Atlanta and elsewhere, they’re friendlier to tolls than taxes. According to a new poll:
Fifty percent of statewide voters said that in general, they oppose the concept of raising taxes to improve transportation, and 39 percent said they favored it. … Statewide, voters seemed somewhat open to new tolls: 49 percent were willing to pay more to drive on interstates; 46 percent were not.
