Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl wants to privatize the city's tow pound:

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl wants to privatize the city's tow pound and move it from its prime location along the city's Allegheny River shoreline.

The legislation introduced Tuesday would turn over the tow pound to a private contractor. Ravenstahl says that's possible because the tow pound generates about as much revenue as it costs to operate.

By privatizing the pound, two police officers who work it now would be available for patrols.

Also, the 1.5-acre pound would be available for development along the Allegheny River's southern shore. The city is redeveloping that section of shoreline.

More details here.
