Bio

Dr. Zongzhi Li is a senior research fellow for the Reason Foundation and is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at Illinois institute of Technology (IIT).

 

Li serves as Director of IIT's Transportation Engineering Program and Infrastructure Engineering and Management Program. Dr. Li has 16 years of experience in the area of transportation and infrastructural systems engineering with expertise in transportation asset management and highway safety analysis. He has been the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI of a dozen major research projects for federal and state transportation agencies, the Transportation Research Board (TRB)'s National Cooperative Highway Research Program of the U.S. National Academies, and the private sector.

 

Dr. Li's work has been published in top referred journals such as ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering, ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems, TRB Journal of Transportation Research Record, Journal of Decision Support Systems, and Australian Journal of Road & Transport Research. He is co-author of two book chapters: "Intelligent Transportation Systems" in the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and "Technology and Highway Asset Management" in the ASCE Civil Engineering Handbook. He was recipient of the 1998 International Road Federation Fellowship and the 2000 Charles V. Wootan Award by the U.S. Council of University Transportation Centers. He currently serves as the Secretary of the TRB Transportation Asset Management Committee and on the Editorial Board of ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems. He earned a bachelor's degree in Engineering from Chang'an University in China, master's degrees specialized in operations research and transportation and infrastructure systems engineering, and a Ph.D. with concentrations in transportation and infrastructure systems engineering all from Purdue University (advisor: Dr. Kumares C. Sinha, members of U.S. National Academy of Engineering).  He also received a Master's dual degree in industrial engineering specialized in operations research (advisor: Dr. Thomas L. Morin).
