Julia Louis-Dreyfus won’t be signing up for one of P.Diddy’s extra-snazzy Lincoln Navigators (see below). The “Seinfeld” star stood shoulder to shoulder with some California politicians and environmentalists as they proposed a new law that would make it tougher for the state of California to purchase SUVs for its various agencies:
“California's car fleet numbers about 73,000. An estimated 7.5 percent to 10 percent of state vehicles are SUVs, which account for up to 25 percent of total U.S. vehicle sales.”
Supporters of the proposed law say it will save the state money (smaller cars are cheaper) and improve the environment. Slightly less government SUVs on the road – what a bold swipe at that $40 billion deficit! A couple more laws like this the state will be in the black in no time.
Mother Earth won’t notice the change either. If you really want to go after the polluters, go after grossest polluters. Let’s get behind remote sensing technology that penalizes the ones who pollute the most, and ditch the hated smog check system.
