A new study estimates that state governments outsource about $75 million in services to overseas contractors. State politicos probably lose that much money each day before lunch, and this article notes that $75 million isn’t much at all. Plus there’s reason to not get too wrapped up in that figure, because, according to the study, the total amount can’t be calculated because most states don’t know where the work is being done: “State policymakers are not well-positioned to respond, since they often lack the most basic information necessary to determine who is actually doing contracted work and where.”
