Los Angeles City Council Pursuing Zoo Privatization
August 15, 2011, 11:00pmIn March 2009 Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa proposed a bundle of privatization initiatives as the city faced a nearly $1 billion budget deficit. The Los Angeles Times reports that over two years later, one of Mayor Villaraigosa’s proposals–privatizing the Los Angeles Zoo–is a step closer to reality after the City Council voted to begin soliciting proposals from prospective operators.

June 1, 2007The recovery of the bald eagle in the lower 48 states is a huge conservation success. But the lion's share of credit for the eagle's recovery should go to the 1972 ban of the pesticide DDT, not the Endangered Species Act, according to a new set of policy briefs by the Reason Foundation.
The Reason Foundation reports also suggest the Endangered Species Act often does more harm than good by pitting landowners against the very animals it is trying to save.
