Robert Poole, Reason’s director of transportation studies, discusses passenger screening and airport security on CNN.
"Once again the Reason Foundation has given policy makers a thoughtful and useful study. Clearly, the pilot program for private sector screening needs to be expanded." - Rep. John Mica (R-FL), Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee
Airports Should Handle Screening, With TSA Oversight US should follow Israel and Europe's lead The Sept. 11 commission recently gave the U.S. a grade of "F" in airline passenger screening, stating, "Few improvements have been made to the existing passenger screening system since right after 9/11." To improve aviation security, the Transportation Security Administration should be phased out of performing passenger and baggage screening and the U.S. should implement a risk-based airport security model like that used by Israel and most of Europe, according to a new Reason study by Robert Poole.
